Restaurant review: Number 2 Montgomery Street, East Kilbride

Ayyy new brunch place just dropped, and it’s only a fifteen minute walk away from my house!

Number 2 Montgomery Street couldn’t stop cropping up on my partner’s Instagram, and after drooling over some pictures and the menu, a table for brunch was quickly booked. We visited this new little restaurant on Saturday, 5th of June around 11 in the morning, and were beyond pleased with everything.

Already, it was pretty busy. Everyone seated seemed really happy to be there. Seeing a new palace already filled up is a good sign of things to come, but it did frustrate me as it meant I wasn’t able to snap a picture of the inside of the restaurant without brunchers thinking I’m trying to get a pic of them. But, this place looked so nice. The aesthetic was marble topped tables, brown leather seating with pop colour pillows, and there were plants everywhere, which really added to the atmosphere. Water was given to us in an old gin bottle – notably, the bottle was locally supplied from nearby Jackton Distillery.

Everyone who spoke to us was really friendly and seemed to have time for us, despite how busy the place was. I ordered a flat white and my partner got a cappuccino, and we both got a glass of orange juice each. Our drinks came to us quickly, all looking so nice, and so fresh tasting, too.

After much deliberation, I decided to go for the sourdough toast with scrambled egg and bacon, and Matt opted for buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. We both loved loved loved the bacon, and I got a taste of one of Matt’s pancakes, which was just perfect. My eggs and toast were so tasty, and I left a clean plate, and helped Matt clean his too when the pancakes proved too much for him.

We must have looked like animals – we seriously inhaled our food. I kept trying to slow down but everything was just so delicious that I couldn’t help myself!

We both resisted the fab looking range of alcoholic drinks on offer – including cocktails – because we had a busy day ahead of ourselves and needed sober heads. But it’s extremely likely I’ll be back here for a boozy girly lunch with my sisters, my mum, my gran, my friends, or anyone else who will join me. I have absolutely zero complaints about Number 2 Montgomery Street, and will absolutely be back, probably as soon as I can get an excuse to go.
